The Summer on the Cuyahoga program consists of four principal components to connect students to our community:

Community Events
The program sponsors a series of programs and events over the summer to enhance the students’ understanding of and experience in Cleveland. Events include discussions with political and business leaders, cultural and social offerings, community service opportunities, and community connections through alumni gatherings.

Challenging Internships
The cornerstone of the program is high-quality, 10-week summer internships (private, nonprofit, and public). The program seeks to offer a wide range of positions to showcase the diversity of employment opportunities here in Northeast Ohio. A few of our past past employers include Key Bank, Lubrizol, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland Metroparks, and BioEnterprise. New opportunities are offered each year.

Group Housing
To assist students and give the group a sense of special cohesiveness, the program organizes housing for all the students on the south campus of Case Western Reserve.

Local Hosts
Students are paired with local host families to help them adjust to Cleveland, and to serve as additional connections for them to the community. Hosts can serve as models for the students as they demonstrate the balance of work, family, organizational commitments, and civic leadership. Finally, hosts also act as recruiters to help bring students back to Northeast Ohio.

The Summer program is followed by a fall and spring campus recruiting initiative for Cleveland employers interested in hiring for permanent positions.
